Local flava

Today was incredible. We were able to get away from the city and see some real Irish countryside. My dad's cousin Ashley lives in Belfast and we decided to connect with her. Julie and I took a bus up there and met her, her husband, and her daughter at the station. It was so much fun to hang out with locals who knew the best things to go see. We got in their car and headed about an hour and a half north to Dunlace Castle.

It was too beautiful for pictures to capture. The green cliffs and blue ocean are just stunning.

After the castle, we went to Giant's Causeway, which is a unique formation of basalt columns along the coastline and in the cliffs. These hexagon shaped steps are the result of the successive cooling and shrinking of volcanic lava.

It started pouring while we were there, but we didn't care at all and hiked up the mountain anyway.
(Beautiful wild orchid hanging out on the trail)

The drive to and from was exactly how you would imagine Ireland. Rolling hills of bright green, fields full of sheep, and little farm houses scattered all over.

Since we were on the northernmost coast of Ireland, we stopped at a lookout where we were able to see Scotland in the foggy distance. Pretty cool!
