Today was our first day in Vienna, Austria. I wasn't really sure what to expect but I fell in love as soon as we got here. We pretty much just walked around today. First, we went to the Naschmarkt market and got a Viennese classic, weiner schnitzel!
It was so much meat, neither of us could finish. Julie also bought an apple strudel from a cute little old lady at the market and it was incredible. We also bought a scarf at the market and marveled at all of the giant fruits and vegetables.
Next we walked around the city and took in the beautiful sights. We found St. Stephens Cathedral and when we went inside the organ was blaring. It was so good I could have sat inside for hours just listening.
It was difficult to get pictures inside, I have a video that I wish blogger would let me post, grrrr.
Also, the buildings are so huge that some of my pictures are awkward because it is impossible to fit the whole thing in the frame! I did the best I could. This is the State Opera:
Parliament:
Park in front of the Hofburg Palace:
There are also tons of flowers and greenery everywhere which I love.
We also really love the people here. They are so nice and helpful. We actually blend right in! Today some Canadian women asked us for directions because they thought we were locals!!! So cool.
Another interesting thing we found was that there are designated places where street art and graffiti are allowed. It's personally not my style but a cool urban feature. Thankfully it's not too near all of the historical buildings.
Of course there's a giant sausage:
We were pretty exhausted today but tomorrow we have some really cool stuff planned!
